Mengenal Of Which pada Adjective Clause

loading...

Sebagian dari kita mungkin mengetahui adjective clause hanya sebatas who, whom, which, whose, dan that. Saya juga begitu pada awalnya. 😀 Tetapi, ternyata ada satu bentuk adjective clause yang jarang kita dengar yaitu of which.

Say abaca di buku Understanding Grammar karangan Betty Azar, bahwa of which digunakan untuk kata ganti terhadap suatu kepemilikan. Coba perhatikan contoh berikut ini:

  1. I see a river and the water of the river is quite clean.
  2. I see a river and the water of which is quite clean.

  1. They have read a book. The paper of the book is made from a high quality material.
  2. They have read a book. The paper of which is made from a high quality material.

  1. She brought me an apple and the taste of that apple made me impressed.
  2. She brought me an apple and the taste of which made me impressed.

Lihat bukan bagaimana of which berfungsi di dalam sebuah kalimat? Kita coba ungkap di kalimat pertama. I see a river and the water of the small river is quite clean, kalimat ini berarti saya melihat sebuah sungai dan air sungai kecil itu begitu jernih.

Namun, apabila menggunakan of which, kita bisa memangkas panjangnya kalimat dengan hanya I see a river and the water of which is quite clean, artinya adalah saya melihat sebuah sungai yang airnya begitu jernih.
